Navigate Between Processes

T
Written by Trang Le

Process navigation lets you link a Call Activity, Start, or End event to a Business Process object and open its published diagram directly from the canvas, so you can move between related processes without searching the process browser.

NOTE: This feature restores feature parity with the old BPMN editor, replacing the manual search for related processes in the process browser.

Prerequisites

  • To navigate through a Call Activity, Start, or End event, you need view permission for both the diagram containing the Call Activity and the target process.

  • To connect a Call Activity, Start, or End event to a process, you need permission to connect objects to the diagram.

Refer to the Roles and Permissions for BPMN Diagrams article for more information on which roles can view diagrams and connect objects to them.

Connecting a Call Activity, Start, or End event to a process

  1. Open your Diagrams or Process Diagram in the BPMN editor.

  2. Click the Call Activity, Start, or End event on the canvas.

  3. In the right corner, click on the expand icon to open the properties panel.

  4. Under Connected object, click Connect object to connect to a process.

  5. In the search box, start typing the name of the business process. Matching results appear as you type. Select a result, or choose one of the AI suggestions.

NOTE: Only Business Process objects are available for selection.

  6. Click Connect.

Behaviors

  • Element naming: The element automatically adopts the name of the connected object.

  • Title locking: The element title becomes non-editable while the connection is active. Disconnecting the object restores the ability to edit the title manually.

  • Visual indicator: An arrow appears on the element if the connected process is published. This indicator is shown at all times and does not require you to select the element.

  • Relationship creation: When you publish the diagram, a TRIGGER relationship is automatically created between the element and the connected Business Process object in the repository.

Navigating to the connected process

Option A: Double-click arrow indicator

  1. Double-click the blue arrow icon under the connected element.

WARNING: The element title may overlap with the arrow indicator at certain zoom levels or when using long labels.

Option B: Side panel link

  1. Click the connected element.

  2. In the right corner, click the expand icon to open the properties panel.

  3. In the side panel, click the process name or click published process.

NOTE: If a Call Activity is connected to an unpublished process, the arrow indicator will not appear, and navigation will not trigger.

The connected process diagram opens automatically in a new browser tab.
