Legacy BPMN Editor vs New BPMN Editor
Q. How can I access the new BPMN Editor in BlueDolphin?
To get access to the new version of the BPMN editor (known as Processes) please contact your account manager and/or CSM.
Q. How does the new BPMN compare to the legacy BPMN?
The new version of the BPMN (called Processes now) offers several new features and improvements like:
- Fully supports BPMN 2.0 process modeling
- Seamless import and export of official .bpmn diagrams
- Better user experience
Q. What happens to the diagrams I created using the legacy BPMN editor in BlueDolphin?
Activating the new BPMN editor( Processes) in BlueDolphin does not affect your existing BPMN diagrams or their functionalities. You can continue using both versions independently.
BPMN diagrams created in the process portal remain accessible and fully functional. However, processes in the old and new versions do not interact with each other. A process diagram created in the new BPMN editor (Processes) will only be available there, and the same applies to processes in the process portal.
Q. Can I migrate my legacy BPMN diagrams to the new BPMN editor(Processes)?
Using the Converter add-on, you can migrate your existing BPMN diagrams in the Processes module. You can convert a diagram only if you are the owner or if it has been shared with you.
For more details, please contact your account manager and/or CSM.
User Management & Permissions
Q. Who can publish a BPMN diagram?
Only a Process Admin and BlueDolphin Admin can publish the BPMN diagram. Refer Roles and Permissions for more information.
Q. How do I get access to the BPMN converter?
The BPMN converter is available on demand as an add-on. Please contact your account manager and/or CSM to get started. The add-on can be activated in any tenant you choose.
Managing Diagrams
Q. How do I duplicate or copy an existing diagram in the new BPMN editor (Processes) while retaining all connections?
If you are the owner of the diagram, you can clone it within the diagram itself. This option retains all associated ArchiMate connections.
If you are not the owner, download the BPMN diagram as a .bpmn file and then import it into Processes. For more information, see Download a Diagram. Although this method does not retain associated ArchiMate connections.
Q. How do I assign different users to a BPMN diagram?
It is possible to transfer the ownership of the BPMN diagram to another user. Sharing a BPMN diagram with different users is not possible at the moment.
Q. Which BPMN views can I convert?
You can convert all legacy BPMN views that you own, including:
- Public
- Private
- Published
- Shared
- Ones that you have shared with others
- Ones that others have shared with you
Q. Can I import an existing BPMN file?
Yes, Process Modelers or Admin role users can import BPMN files that are BPMN 2.0 compatible in the standard XML format. Check out the article to learn more about Import a BPMN File.
Q. Where can I find the training material and learn about modeling BPMN 2.0 diagrams in BlueDolphin Processes?
To learn how to model BPMN 2.0 process diagrams and use BlueDolphin Processes, you can enroll in the Processes Essentials online course in the Academy, which is exclusively designed for the Processes module in BlueDolphin.
Publishing Process
Q. Does the URL of a published process change when it is republished?
No, the URL of a published process is fixed, regardless of how many times the process is published. It will always display the latest published version.
Q. How do I track changes made to a published process?
To keep a record of your recent changes, it is recommended to include changes/version details in the publication summary each time you publish a diagram. However, a complete history of all changes is not currently available.
Refer to Publish a BPMN Diagram for more information.
Converter
Q. What is changing?
BlueDolphin is focusing on BPMN improvements and future capabilities on Processes rather than the legacy BPMN editor. Processes provides BPMN 2.0 modeling, .bpmn import and export, validation support, and a future-ready foundation for process modeling.
Q. Is the legacy BPMN module being decommissioned?
BlueDolphin intends to phase out the legacy BPMN editor in the future, but no final timeline has been confirmed. Customers do not need to rush, but should start preparing.
Q. Will existing legacy BPMN diagrams stop working immediately?
No. Existing legacy BPMN diagrams remain available and functional today. Using Processes does not automatically remove or change existing legacy BPMN diagrams.
Q. Does the converter migrate all diagrams automatically?
No. The BPMN Converter works on a diagram-by-diagram basis. You need to select and convert one legacy BPMN view at a time.
Q. Which legacy BPMN views can be converted?
You can convert legacy BPMN views that you own or that have been shared with you.
Q. Does conversion change or delete the original legacy BPMN diagram?
No. Conversion creates a version of the diagram in Processes. The original legacy BPMN view remains available during the transition.
Q. What should we check after converting a diagram?
Compare the converted diagram with the original. Check layout, alignment, labels, arrows, pool names, and validation messages.
Q. Where can I find the converted diagram?
After saving, the converted diagram is available in the Diagrams tab in Processes.
What happens if a diagram with the same name already exists?
Rename the converted diagram and save it again. Each user must use a unique view name in Processes.
Q. What happens to diagram ownership after conversion?
The converted diagram is created under the user who performs the conversion. In a managed migration, ownership may need to be changed after conversion.
Q. Can BlueDolphin help customers with many diagrams?
Yes. Customers with many diagrams, complex ownership structures, or important related information such as metadata and questionnaires should contact their Account Manager or Growth Manager.
