Home Page Guide

Written by Rutuja Murumkar

BlueDolphin introduces a redesigned navigation experience and a new default Home page aligned with updated rebranding and product structure. This new Home page serves as the central entry point for users, while still preserving flexibility for existing customers who use a custom role-based start page.

The update delivers a more consistent and intuitive navigation model across the platform.

A new top navigation bar and main menu simplify access to key areas, and the addition of breadcrumbs helps users clearly understand their location and navigate efficiently within the cards.

This article provides an overview of the new navigation bar and menu structure, along with guidance on using it effectively.

Home Page Interface

The redesigned navigation introduces a cleaner layout and enhances usability, ensuring a consistent look, terminology, and experience across the platform.

The traditional dashboard has been replaced by a new Home page, which acts as the default landing page (if no custom start page is configured).

At a high level,

  • The Home page contains three primary cards:

    • Strategic Planning

    • Architecture Management

    • Solution Design: Projects is now Solution Design. Solution design is visible in the main menu (and home) if the add-on is enabled.

  • Quick Links – Direct access to frequently used features

  • Main Menu – Entry points to all the features in Bluedolphin

Home Page Cards

The Home page cards provide a structured entry point into BlueDolphin’s core use cases. They help you align the platform with Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) best practices.

The cards are organized around three primary domains:

  • Architecture Management

  • Strategic Planning

  • Solution Design

This structure strengthens the connection between user goals, navigation, and the overall architecture workflow.

BlueDolphin uses two types of cards:

  • Static cards – Fixed and non-interactive

  • Dynamic cards – Configurable by Admin users, with role-based customization

NOTE: To maintain consistency and clarity, you cannot repurpose, remove, rename, or reorder the primary cards and the cards within Strategic Planning and Architecture Management.

Breadcrumb Navigation

Breadcrumbs are introduced to improve orientation and navigation. It helps you stay oriented as you navigate through Home page cards and their underlying domains.

For example, Architecture Management → Application Portfolio Management → Application services, clearly showing your current location within a domain. As shown in the image, they display the full navigation path.

Breadcrumbs reflect the path you take and reset when you switch between modules. You can use them to quickly return to previous levels. Each item in the path is clickable except for the last one, which represents the current page.

Roles & permissions in the cards

Admin Users

Admin can override the default SmartView with a public View from the three-dot menu. The connect or disconnect views option is available for the dynamic cards.

Non-Admin Users

Non-admin users can open cards only in read-only mode. The three-dot menu is not visible to them.

They can access linked resources (such as Smart Views or public views) but cannot modify card configurations.

Working with Smart Views from cards

In Strategic Planning and Architecture Management, selected cards are connected to Smart Views by default. When you open a Smart View from a card, it displays in read-only mode for quick insights, as shown in the image.

To access the full functionality, click Open in Repository in the top-right corner. This action opens the view in the Repository, where you can use full SmartView features, like filters and access to the underlying object definitions.

Behaviors to consider

No objects returned

In the workspace, if an object definition exists but doesn’t have any object created for that specific object definition, it displays the following message,

Create at least one object under the specific object definition. Refer to the Create a new object article.

Objects not available

In the workspace, the system displays the following message if the object definition is missing, if a user without permission tries to access the object, or if another error occurs.

Make sure the object definition is enabled in your tenant. Refer to Manage Object and Relationship Definitions for more information.

After it’s enabled successfully, create at least one object under that object definition.

Object definition hidden in Display Settings

Object definition exists, but object definition is disabled in Account > Display Settings.

For instructions, refer to the Set up Visible Object Definitions article.

Connect or Disconnect Views in Cards

In Strategic Planning and Architecture Management, eligible cards are connected to a SmartView by default. Admin users can override this behavior by linking a card to a public view.

  • Only dynamic cards can be overridden

  • Static cards and Home page cards cannot be overridden

  • Configurations are scoped per tenant and workspace

Connect a View (Admin Only)

To connect a public view to a card:

  1. Click the three-dot menu on the card and select the Connect existing view option.

  2. Search or browse from the available public views.

  3. Select a view and confirm.

Once connected, a confirmation message appears, View connected successfully.

The card opens the selected view in the new editor. The default SmartView is now replaced with the public view.

Disconnect a View

To restore the default SmartView:

  1. Click the three-dot menu on the card

  2. Select Disconnect view

The card will revert to its original SmartView.

Strategic Planning

The following cards are available in the Strategic Planning domain,

  • Business Model Canvas

  • Strategy Map

  • Principles

  • Capabilities

  • Value Streams

At this stage, all second-level cards are dynamic. Admins can connect these cards to a public view.

The Business Model Canvas and Strategy Map cards do not have Smart Views connected to them by default. You can leave them empty or connect them to a public view.

Architecture Management

The following cards are available in the Architecture Management domain,

  • Application Portfolio Management

    • Application overview: application component

    • Application services

  • Business Process Management

    • Process overview: business process

  • Data Architecture

    • Information model: business object

    • Data model: data object

  • Technology Management

    • Infrastructure overview: node

    • Software overview: system software

    • Technology services: technology service

All third-level cards (for example, Application Services, Data Object, and Infrastructure Overview) are dynamic. Admins can connect these cards to a public view.
